Many computer printer users complain about both the cost of new cartridges and how often they need to be replaced. At the time of 2010, it was not uncommon for a new set of cartridges to cost over $100, so the concern was understandable. A particularly unpleasant case is that when the color cartridge (s) is empty, you just want to print black and white and the printer will not allow. Fortunately, there is a solution to overcome this situation on HP printers.

Step 1
Press the “Menu” button on the printer’s dashboard.
Step 2
Press the “<” or “>” button to navigate to the “Services” setting and press “Enter”.
Step 3
Press the “<” or “>” button to navigate to “Default Restore,” and then press “Enter.” This process will cause the HP printer to reset to the manufacturer’s original default settings.
Step 4
Go back to your computer and click “Print” in the file you’re trying to print. Select “properties,” and then click the “Color” tab.
Step 5
Click to place the check mark in the check box labeled “Print on the grayscale” and you’ll be able to print black and white.
